Seasoning your New Blackstone
Simple dinners are always popular at our house. We had been looking at buying a Blackstone grill for months… and finally bought one!
The first step after you buy a Blackstone griddle is to season it. Perfectly seared meat, crisp veggies and delicious smashburgers have been some of our favorite meals. Whether you’re grilling your burgers or sizzling up some bacon, proper seasoning not only prevents sticking - it locks in flavor and protects your griddle for the long haul.
Here’s how to get your Blackstone ready for your delicious low carb meals:
What you’ll need:
Avocado oil
Paper Towels
Tongs
Instructions
1. Clean your griddle
• Start with a clean surface. Wash with warm water and a little mild soap to remove any residue. Rinse well and dry completely.
2. Preheat your griddle
• Turn all the burners on high and let your griddle heat up for 10-15 minutes. You’ll see the metal start to darken. That’s normal and part of the seasoning process!
3. Apply a thin layer of oil
• Once the surface is hot, turn the burners down slightly and use tongs with a paper towel to spread a very thin layer of oil over the entire surface. Include the corners and edges. Just shiny, you don’t want it overly greasy or puddles.
4. Let it smoke
• Turn the heat back up to high and let the oil smoke and burn off. This takes about 15-20 minutes. When the smoke stops, that layer is baked in. This creates the first layer of non-stick protection.
5. Repeat
• For a durable, long-lasting seasoning, repeat the oil and smoke process three to four times. The surface will gradually darken to a deep black. That’s the sign of a perfectly seasoned griddle!
6. Cool and Protect
